With Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag on the horizon, there's been a lot of animosity directed at Assassin's Creed III. Every YouTube and Facebook comment on any new ACIV: Black Flag teaser release is all about how ACIII was horrible and how Connor was "boring and bland." I'm sure I'm not alone in noticing this.

I have a hard time believing it. Connor was an extremely complex and interesting character and now if any haters out there would just think about his character a little deeper...

On the accusation that Connor is boring and bland:
He was flung into conflict and loss right from the get-go when his village was burned down and he lost his mother in front of his eyes. Yes Ezio did suffer a lot of loss too with the hanging of his family but take into account that Connor was a child. Things that happen during early childhood can have a seriously dramatic effect on the development of a child. Connor grew up without a mother and only a ghost of a father. Achilles was like a father to him but the experience was definitely much more distanced than anything a healthy child would receive.

Also, he's Mohawk. They have a proud culture of respect. I'm not claiming to be an expert on the culture but if everyone would remove themselves from an ethnocentric view, we could begin to better realize the reservation of his speech and reactions. (Another interesting note is that in Mohawk culture, it is taboo to touch a stranger and so that's why he's so rude to Paul Revere and didn't hug Lafayette xD) We can't measure everything on a Euro/American scale of charisma, humanization, humor. He was a respectful, sweet, reserved, and extremely honest person as molded by his culture and upbringing. Just entertain the thought, be more considerate. I don't want everyone to think like me, I would just like for everyone to consider the possibility that there is a greater narrative here.

In the Homestead sequences, with people he knew better and took care of, he was a completely different person. They weren't strangers and he knew they accepted him. He would smile and jest, and react in surprising ways. In fact, his personality and quirks became even stronger given his personality around others.

And as a disclaimer, I love Ezio with all my heart, but we got to spend years and years with him, watching him grow from hunter, to lord and finally to prophet. I miss him dearly but I have found a lot of love in Connor.

Yes. So in my humble opinion, opening my mind, I think Connor is a wonderful character that deserves another look. *cough perhaps another game*

Here is a Petition so that a Connor sequel would be in our near future. Please at least spread the word.
